Time to Prepare Your 2025 AML/CFT Annual Report

As we approach the next reporting cycle, now is a good time to start preparing your AML/CFT annual report.

All annual reports must be submitted between 1 July and 31 August 2025. While the deadline is fixed and cannot be extended, preparing ahead of time gives you the space to gather the right information, clarify any questions, and complete your submissions with confidence.

Who Needs to Report?

If your business offers services involving financial transactions, client funds, or advisory roles, you’re likely captured under the Act. This includes many law firms, accountants, real estate professionals and financial service providers.

Your obligation is to submit an AML/CFT annual report to your Supervisor each year. If you’re unsure whether this applies to your organisation, it’s a good idea to check the official guidance provided by your Supervisor:

What the Report Covers

The AML/CFT annual report summarises your activity for the 12-month period from 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2025, and helps demonstrate that you are:

  • Meeting AML/CFT obligations
  • Identifying and managing money laundering and terrorism financing risks
  • Maintaining an up-to-date Risk Assessment and Compliance Programme (RA/CP)

Supervisors use the report to assess compliance and identify whether further engagement is needed.

What You’ll Need to Provide

Your report includes the following information:

  • Business details – Legal name, company number, addresses, Compliance Officer, structure and locations
  • RA/CP status – Whether your documents are current, and if any changes or audit findings have occurred
  • Products, customers and delivery channels – Services offered, customer types (e.g. individuals, companies, trusts), and how services are delivered
  • Supervisor-specific questions – Based on which Supervisor you report to (DIA, FMA, or RBNZ)
  • Exemptions – Completed only if your business holds a Ministerial exemption

Your report must be submitted in the required format and reflect any audit findings from the reporting period.

Where to Submit the Annual Report

Your annual AML/CFT report must be submitted following the instructions provided by your Supervisor.

If you need support pulling your report together, you can refer to your Supervisor’s website, contact them by email, or engage an AML consultant for assistance.
